Lush Hair Lab Review

When someone asks me what I’m interested in, “besides fashion & beauty” my go-to answer is ‘branding’. Ever since my college days, I loved serious meaningful conversations about those cult favourite brands, of course, it made me sound smart too. And ‘Lush’ was definitely at the top! Most of my research on key marketing terms- CSR, Word of Mouth, A/B Testing, was backed up by the examples of this particular brand.

I fell in love with Lush, right from the moment I heard about it on Zoella’s youtube channel, visited the store later that week and there was no going back. Lush is known for the rigorous staff training on how to treat the visitors as a family and you feel that core value & passion throughout the employees, even in the way they treat you. With all honesty, instead of forcing down a purchase, they love to educate you about the brand & its products, a reason why you leave the store with a generous chunk of samples.

Recently, I went down to the New Lush Store at City walk, which apparently is also the biggest one in the Middle East to review an interesting idea – Lush Hair Lab. Loving the brand and its history so much, I couldn’t help myself but decided to go for a quick shopping spree on their valentines collection before hitting the lab.

“Fancy having a professional wash and blow-dry, trying exciting new products or even a henna application? You can have a luxurious hair treatment and fight animal testing by visiting the Lush Hair Lab”

Hair Lab is a relatively new concept where you can experience the products on spot and get instant results. It is an entirely complimentary process, inviting you to test out new products or enjoy a truly pampering hair-washing experience. Decorated with reclaimed wood and white ceramic tiles among Basins & hair styling equipment where clients can have their hair washed, dried and styled on the go. At the far end of the small, no door room, a tiny shelf holds all the products in use.

Also, you can try out Henna to colour your hair, which is a no chemical process.

Each treatment at the hair lab starts by an in-depth consultation with your hair technician about the condition of your hair, how you like to wear it day-to-day, and what type of results you are looking for. And mind you she is not satisfied with a simple answer like ‘Glowing shiny hair’, she wants to know all the dirt – itchy scalp, hair fall and so on.

Next, she picked the perfect products to use on my hair & went in a detailed explanation about which ingredients are used in the products and the benefits I shall reap.

Lush City Walk Hair Lab Review Free hair treatment - Dubai beauty blogger - uae hijabi stylist - best hair care shampoo conditioner and hair oil treatment for hijabi rehab shampoo reviewI was given the choice of hot oil treatment or a deep conditioning hair mask, while I have been relying upon Jasmine And Henna Fluff-Eaze to revamp my hair from 2016 January, so we started off with something new – a hot hair oil treatment with Damaged packed full of extra virgin olive and Rich and conditioning Organic Avocado Oil.  Again following the solid shampoo & conditioner bars, the product was actually a small 20g block of serum on a wooden stick which you have to melt with boiling water. How cool is that?? Especially when you get to be a queen and the work is done entirely by someone else. My hair technician massaged the vanilla infused oil on my scalp for a good five minute, oh but the oil hardens up quickly, giving you a slight headache.

Secondly, we jointly picked up Rehab, just like the name suggests, it’s a rehabilitation centre for your vulnerable destroyed hair. Rehab is a thin, runny shampoo with extracts of tropical fruits like Papaya, Kiwi & Pineapple juices, vegetable oils and stimulating peppermint which cleanses your hair in depth. Rehab was my personal favourite during summer 2016, it detangles hair and you can afford to skip the conditioner once in a while, especially when you are running late. However, with personal experience, this shampoo on its own doesn’t give any shine or glow to hair.

We finished off with Rehab’s partner in crime, Lush Retread Conditioner, a super-smoothing cream with seaweed, yoghurt, cantaloupe melon and jojoba oil to give seriously sad hair its shine back. The smell is not off-putting and stays on the whole day (this is a pro if you like are into fruity scents).  Retread thankfully contains no silicones or the majority of horrible ingredients you find in regular conditioners.

VERDICT: Lush hair care range is my personal preference among the store, especially because of the amazing outcome. I’ve always selected Lush products after a thorough understanding and a detailed discussion with the staff, they genuinely want to help you, and your only work is to tell them exactly what you are looking for. They are termed as ‘Lush Experts’ for a reason. And the Hair Lab is one step forward to assist you in your purchase by showcasing the results then and there. The only thing I was quite sceptical about is why the Lab doesn’t have a door, being a hijabi it was quite a No No for us.

Appointments run on a first come first serve basis at Lush City Walk, but you can definitely call & book a date on 045608509

BEHIND THE SCENES OF COLLEGE LIFE

dubai-college-life-scenes-of-amity-univesity-dubai-1For every graduate, freshmen year holds unforgettable memories and the so-called orientation day; in general, comes with an overwhelming baggage of anxiety, intimidation and downright terror mode. While some disguise the ‘butterflies and nail biting’ behind a bold candid mask, others make desperate attempts to camouflage in the crowd of thousand students. But the third unknown category is those ‘crackerjacks’ who crave becoming the King but chicken out before the combat, I was among these.

Venturing into the university doors, life hack videos, tips & tricks to make a lasting impression and how to articles were all over my internet history, truth be told after graduation, it was never about survival, in fact, the whole three journey was a necessary boost for me to conquer my fears & becoming a better version of myself. An adventure made of entirely new people means a fresh new start which the high school ‘You’ desperately craved, savour this independent new world away from family and past notions.

Though I read thousands of articles on how to survive college, I never came across anything explaining what exactly to work on those three years for a better life in general. A few days back when I posted BEHIND THE SCENES OF DUBAI WORK LIFE AS A BEGINNER many of my university mates & juniors asked me to write something about College life.

Presentation:

Golden words always linger by your side, facing huge anxiety issues from childhood once a mentor told me it’s not what you say, it’s how you say. You can make a lie seem the truth just by being confident. I still do face anxiety –  a nerve-wracking pain in my stomach before talking to strangers or asking someone for help, but now I’m way better at hiding it away in a calm composed exterior.

Don’t be in the ‘know it all’ group, thrive for knowledge make the curious nature the crux behind your personality. When I walked out those campus door I knew ‘I may not be perfect but I’m good, I know something but l want that something to become everything’. And that’s what forces me to break barriers & reach for my dreams. #BossBabes

Experience:

We are in an era where companies want fresh graduates to have corporate experience, so to avoid months of uncanny job search, get involved in your campus activities, assist professors on a research paper or write articles for the editorials and at the same time look for an internship from day one. An unpaid internship pays you in the desired exposure you will need to set your career straight.

Back in my college days, I remember a Professor saying: “I’m in this class of 60 students equally attentive to all but how each student uses my expertise for their betterment depends solely on them”. College Professors can be a source of inspiration to many and a great ice breaker for me was asking about their first job experience after graduation, believe me, the hideous work stories lined up next is beyond imagination. College is the right time to friend zone your teachers and get out of those comfy protective shells effectuate by your parents. Before becoming a connection on LinkedIn my professors were friends with me on Facebook.

Amity:

A term interrelated to friendship, gratitude and compassion within nations. Studying on an international platform and befriending individuals with different nationalities and gender taught me how to accept a difference in opinion with positivity and eradicating that picky, judgmental, and flat out discriminating ways. Ironic that my university was actually named Amity.

Parents always tend to blame their kid’s fault on ‘unwanted friendships’ and the  nasty game of ‘peer pressure’ which destroys many talented youngsters. A student feels pressurised if the fine line between their subconscious Bad & Good decisions is blurred out, it’s never the friends to be blamed. Instead, college is a time where you can form great bonds with parents too.

Communication:

It is a two-way street, putting forward your opinions and ideas is crucial but so it listening to add-ons to your idea by others. College life teaches you how to take negative comments as constructive criticism and work your way through it rather than against it.  Mandatory Behavioural Science & Communication Skills courses at my Univeristy taught me how to switch off my Anxiety & Depression Mode in Public while in Private my counsellor showed me how bottling up your feelings is neither good for your physical nor mental health, ask for help & express those feelings as this is the time where you can get the most help.

Education:

Life is not about those chunky library textbooks and 2 hours written examination, I was a finance major passed with distinction and today the only thing remotely financial in my life is managing my own money with an app called Coin Keeper. No one is going to ask for textbook definitions, but the examples your professors referred during their lectures are way more crucial for practical implementation.

Constantly updating and educating yourself with global news and even current affairs in your field of interest takes you a long way, it’s all about being Street Smart & performing Smart Work in today’s corrupt world.

Dear Freshers, It’s okay to Hate your College Life at the start and Dear Graduates, It’s okay to hate your Work Life.

LUSH HAIR CARE REVIEW

lush hair care reviewLush hair care reviewSay hello to good hair days.

For the first time, I have no idea how to start a post. I’m still ‘thrilled’ by the fact RT Hijab Styles is collaborating with my all time favorite brand ‘Lush'( the 15-year-old Rahma is dancing on the cloud nine). I fell in love with the brand ever since I first walked into the colorful aromatic Lush store in UAE. The exquisite fresh floral/fruity smell of a Lush store sweeps me off my feet every single time.

It’s no mystery that I’m a HUGE Lush fan, so I couldn’t resist screaming “OH MY GOODNESS” when I got this huge box of Lush hair care products. Going bananas over the Lush Bath bombs and massage bars was a ritual but how I could never tried their hair care range before is beyond me. For a hijabi whose hair is tied up and covered 75% of the day, this was a neat (very much needed) surprise. The following products were in my Lush box:

  • Jason and the Argan Oil Solid Shampoo Bar
  • Rehab Shampoo
  • Fairly Traded Honey Shampoo
  • Big Sea Salt Shampoo
  • No Drought Dry Shampoo
  • Happy Happy Joy Joy Conditioning Hair Perfume
  • Jasmine and Henna Fluff Eaze Hair Treatment

Even though these were sent over a month ago, I still haven’t gotten the time to try them all. Mainly because I do not want these beauties to get over so quickly. Meanwhile, read my review on some of the awesome sauce products.

Big Sea Salt Shampoo:
This is my holy grail shampoo. If you want an extra ‘oomph’ look no further, from additional bounce to super shiny hair this body-building shampoo gives you all. The sea salt chunky textures surely adds on some fun, what I love is to massage these chunks on my scalp for a deep cleansing of the product buildup, you can feel that effect right after rinsing it out.  To my nose, it is not a very pleasant or appealing odor, but it doesn’t bother me enough to be a deal-breaker. If you deal with oily scalp like me, BIG may be the product for you. As per my experience, BIG is not a daily shampoo, I have been using it only once a week and be sure to use a kick-ass conditioner later on.Though it is on the pricey side, the fullness and bounces it gives your hair is so obvious and nothing less than magical. To my surprise, all my family members love this very shampoo and I could observe such a bounce in my brother’s stiff hair too.

Happy Happy Joy Joy is a lightweight conditioner that is great for detangling and shine. I love that it’s not heavy and does not weigh my hair down. And the scent is to die for!  I seriously cannot stop smelling my hair. The blend of rose water, grapefruit oil, almond milk and orange flower is absolutely divine and uplifts your spirit beautifully. Though I wear hijab, people have complimented me on my perfume but it’s actually this lovely fruity conditioner. The fragrance truly lingers on for a very long time and I think everyone should try it at least once. I really am loving this stuff, and I wouldn’t hesitate to repurchase this beauty again.

Rehab Shampoo: Another solution to oily hair, this shampoo will give you a deep & thorough cleansing effortlessly without drying out your hair. It puts your hair into a real good ‘REHAB’. You need to shake the bottle well as the texture of this particular shampoo is quite runny, look at the bright side you will be able to get every last drop of it out. Rehab is a thin, gel-like shampoo with Papaya, Kiwi & Pineapple juices, vegetable oils and stimulating peppermint, the tropical over-powering minty touch is mind refreshing and invigorating.

lush hair care review - dry shampoo

No Drought Dry Shampoo: This is my absolute FAVOURITE dry shampoo.  I love the  citrusy scent and I just think dry shampoos are the best invention ever. It soaks up my hair oil perfectly, doesn’t feel like there’s anything in your hair & when you brush it out there’s no white cast leaving behind a decent amount of volume. I always sprinkle this into my roots and wait about 5 minutes to let it work it’s magic. Even though I have dark  hair blending is never an issue.

I’m super excited to try on the Argon Oil Solid shampoo, however, the Jasmine and Henna Fluff Eaze Hair Treatment is basically for frizzy and curly so may not be using it. Stay tuned to my Instagram as I will add this beauty to my Giveaway very soon.
