Living in UAE, you are overthrown by alternatives for Friday Plans particularly the options available for lavish brunch with family. Yet, when I received an invite from Downtown Palace, I was downright excited! Why may you ask? Though 21 years in UAE, it was my very first time visiting Traditional Arabic Architectural Palace known for its Award Wining luxurious Middle Eastern themes.
As we entered through the beautiful royal doors, the sumptuous spread at Ewaan left us astonished as ever. The buffet was mainly filled with over 200+ Arabic & Oriental dishes with live cooking stations. Brunch begins at 1pm and is usually jam packed with the hotel guests as well as the residents of UAE. Despite this being one of the busiest brunches that we have attended, the tables were not crammed together so we felt like we had a little bit of space and privacy amongst our dining group.
This mega-brunch is all about the live cooking stations shockingly serving everything a meat lover wants, from Chicken to Duck, Fish, Lobsters, Veal & beef also a Sushi station you had it all under one roof. You are definitely spoiled with countless choices of meat.
The cooking station continuously grilled meat as per your liking & served it as hot! With various sauces & dips to try with. Focusing on the Arabic Traditions, the food flavours were mild but they did offer chilli sauce for the Indian Spice lovers too. The Pasta station has always been my favourite & at this particular one, I asked the cook to add veal on to my pink pasta sauce which turned out to be a perfect combination.
You know it's a big hot shot restaurant when the buffet includes the finest artisan selection of cheese & bread. After a…
Venturing into the dessert section, you will be left delighted with Arabic sweets particularly the popular Umm Ali. Another surprise for the inner child in you would be the live cotton candy station, chocolate fondue & crepes. Plus, you can help yourself to mini modern dessert like chocolate, mango mouse & all flavours of cheesecakes.
Before making your way out do ensure that you stop by the outside terrace for outstanding views of their swimming pool – the perfect way to end such a luxurious brunch.
Friday Brunch: 1.00 am to 4.00 pm
With lots of munching & crunching done on my Food House column over the past one year, my gourmet adventure at melting pot is hands down a treat to foodie soul. Neither too hot shot classy scene, nor too melodramatic boring ambience, Melting Pot at the quirky Box Park Dubai is my go to place to host an affordable delightful evening for any guest. It’s the perfect place for a girl’s night out, Friday family brunch or Thursday evening date, basically any kind of celebration.
Click here to read all about its warm ambience, spacious location & friendly service written on my previous review.
Last time my biggest regret was to skip their main entree, so we had to try Melting Pot is famous for its super-hyped ‘Big Night Out’, basically a four-course meal for two only for AED 349: cheese fondue, salad, meat, and dessert which we were really excited to try out . If you have few hours to spare & love to have a laid back dining with friends this is the option to go.
Melting Pot has a collection of Mocktails & Fresh Smoothies. While I got a chocolatey sweet Yin & Yang Martini, my plus one had her heart set on a refreshing glass of Blackberry Sage Lemonade, which came with a sweet-sour kick.
We started off our international fondue experience, with a two serving of their Classic Alpine Swiss Cheese, A crazy combination of three different cheese blended with non-alcoholic white wine, fresh garlic & nutmeg.Though, I have to admit the fiery salsa Fiesta Cheese Fondue is still my favourite especially with apples, the garlicky taste to this fondue brings an interesting Italian vibe to the table.
Salads and I are not the best of friends, but the crunchy Melting Pot House Salad served with their juicy signature dressing was a tempting treat for my taste buds. Both of us loved the huge salad. Highly Recommended! And do not let the waiter take away the cheese fondue, dip some of these green goodness into the melting cheese, believe me, it might look and sound weird but the whole salad and the flavours come together beautifully.
As we started to finish our salad, our attendant brought our next course, we chose to use seasoned court bouillon to cook our meat! Meats and vegetables included lobster, teriyaki-marinated sirloin, white shrimp, marinated breast of chicken, spicy beef steaks, mushrooms, a spinach cheese filling, and a variety of sauces – bleu cheese, spicy cocktail, light mustard sauce, plumb sweet-and-sour and teriyaki. Our attendant was super sweet & gave us complete instructions on how to cook our meal, and it was such a fun experience.
For dessert, we indulged in individual servings of Mint Chocolate Chip Fondue & Yin and Yang fondue which was a mix of Milk & White Chocolate. It was served with all sorts of wonderful things to dip into the fondue pot: brownies, sponge cake, strawberries, bananas, marshmallows. They got us refills of cakes too, which was extra sweet of them.
The Melting Pot is a very relaxed, peaceful and romantic atmosphere. You are not rushed — which is a good thing — because you cannot eat all that delicious food quickly. Plus you’ll want to savour it! t gives you lots of time to talk to the person you’re with and relax. The fondue is amazing and with multiple courses, you really get your money’s worth.

Few Fridays ago we took the advantage of exploring the ever so charming grounds of Palm Jumeirah and spent the afternoon relaxing at Palm Avenue Bar Grill, a poolside, chic coastal restaurant in the midst of the elegant Waldorf Astoria.
Under the sparkling skies of Dubai along a refreshing and contemporary ambiance overlooking the pool view and beach front is a perfect venue for a leisurely afternoon lunch that features splendid Mediterranean delights with exotic Shisha flavors.
Though their elegant Cabana adjacent to the pool was my initial choice, all of them were reserved in advance. So we opted for their beautiful outdoor terrace, the other options were a vibrant indoor setting or exquisite beach sitting area. The refreshing blue pool is so enticing, with a shallow area safe for kids to play in.
Verdict: One of its kind, Palm Avenue is perfect for a lavish lunch on a sunny Friday afternoon with family & friends. Free access to their beautiful swimming pool and alongside the beach you have a selection of exciting water sports activities including Banana Boating, Snorkeling & Water Skiing is just icing on the cake.
As for the Staff, the Shisha guy was so hilarious and helped us out when we wanted to change the flavors. Similarly, our attendant customized their Pasta with off the menu flavors & toppings, however the pasta was tooo huge and not at all as per likings.
The food has an extra Oomph factor to it, with an exotic Tropical vibe. Out of all the four drinks we had, each one is uniquely designed for summers. The chef is a sweetheart and customizes your dishes with a happy smile. While returning home, I was pleasantly surprised and left the Hotel with a full tummy and a bag of their delicious Garlic Fries.
When I first heard the words ‘Bertin Bistro’ I immediately envisioned a small Cafe involving a some kind of French dishes. What I wasn’t expecting was a 19th-century love tale inspired two floored Bistro. We’re talking about a magical culinary journey through France, Spain & Morocco, starting off with a large open kitchen bakery on the ground-floor crafting delicate French artisan desserts and traveling upstairs you find yourself in an Andalusian lounge offering Moroccan & Spanish food topped with the exotic smell of shisha.
Bertin Signatures dishes from the mouth watering Alsace desserts downstairs to the refashioned thin pizza bread served with different flavors & toppings baked right in front of you downstairs at their massive pastry counter is just delightful & eye pleasing.
Our order for the evening:
The very first thing we treated ourselves was with their chilled fresh fruit smoothies and Mixed flavor sheesha which was the perfect way to start off this massive food splurge. Before going any further, to all my Shisha loving reader, Bertin Bistro mixes the most intricate flavors of Shisha – exotic smell & divine taste, a combo which never disappoints!
The house specialty, flammkuchen will definitely win over your hearts with the very first bite. Bertin’s Flammekueche is an Alsatian oven baked dish composed of bread dough rolled out very thin. You can also taste it with gluten-free dough.
The Spanish – Moroccan Hot & Cold Tapas were actually finger-licking tasty. Their Chicken Croquettes were exquisite, all I can say is your taste buds can’t get enough of this tiny crispy delicacy. But the Spicy Chicken wings were such a huge disappoint which ended up being sweet.
If that’s not enough, their tempting desserts are a massive HIT across all social media platforms. Once you taste the highly recommended Bertin’ fluffy Pain Perdu there is just NO going back, no pictures does enough justice to their fluffy, creamy & heavenly desserts.
Both the floors were crafted beautifully to capture the essence of an elegant love story. As we walked upstairs, stepping out of a relaxed white, fresh Parisian Bistro, we suddenly entered a dark mysterious, Moroccan inspired restaurant with an outdoor terrace. The whole place comes together as you go through the menu and unfold the mystical love tale of Mr Bertin.
Not only the atmosphere, but the friendly & welcoming staff is what makes this place interestingly one of it’s kind. Our attendant constantly guided us throughout the menu and even took our tastes & liking into consideration to a large extent when recommending dishes.
Overall Bertin Bistro gets a tick against all the factors I consider for another visit. If you are into smoking, you need to try out their ridiculously appealing shisha flavors they are nothing less than PERFECTION. The second floor is where you feel like home, with comfy seats & beautiful terrace, you won’t leave anytime soon.
We thought we were so stuffed but everyone has that extra pouch of space in their stomach for a huge plate of chocolate fondue. By the time we licked the chocolate bowl clean, four hours had passed. Regardless, I would highly recommend the desserts & Shisha for a unique laid back evening experience with friends & family.
Growing up subtle flavors, mixture of spices and exotic smells was an everyday deal. North Indians are born to love the Creamy Butter Chicken, Aromatic Biryani & Mouth Watering Alu Partha, our ultimate comfort food. After trying so many different cuisines at restaurants, I always end up going right back to my Mom’s Dal Chawal – Rice & Lentil Soup. Spicy Indian cuisine is what hit the right taste buttons for me, Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity to try out authentic Indian Dishes with a modernized touch at Mint Leaf of London.
I would say that it is one of the most sophisticated & exquisite choice there is and if you’re looking for a fine dining Indian restaurant then look no further.
On a scale of one to ten, the interiors, location & ambiance of Mint Leaf is out off the charts. Located on the fifteen floor of the stunning Emirates Financial Tower, this sophisticated fusion of India meets London will win your heart over. Despite the traditional colorful artistry which mimics India, the interiors of Mint Leaf of London reflects a more regal elegant aspect. From the clean dark look to the floor-to-ceiling windows with the gorgeous view of Burj Khalifa & Sheikh Zayed Road, the place was truly like no other place I’ve been before.
You can decide to sit in the main dining room along the view of the open kitchen where all live action happens, a bar and a more cozy lounge area or their terrace seating.
If the view & location doesn’t give you a royal wave, the attendants surely will. Dressed in their best attires, our servers were extremely friendly & attentive. You realize the overall foundation of Mint Leaf of London is purely for you to have a lavish elite dining experience. From the ambiance to the intricately designed food, the restaurant puts ahead a royal touch to everything.
I absolutely loved how they instantly place a small cushioned bench alongside your table for girls to place their purse. Like how come no other restaurant thought of this, seriously Kudos to Mint Leaf for understanding the pain of every girl carrying huge handbags.
Also, the attendants quickly took our order & of course they recommended their signature drinks & dishes which I may say were my favorite among all. Lastly, he was sweet enough to help me out with lighting for my food photography as well.
It has been the most elegant & creative Indian food I’ve ever had. We started off with some Crispy Thin Roasted Papad with Sweet Mango Dip, Red Chily sauce & Pickle, quite addictive.
There were even a number of classic and exotic cocktails and “mocktails” available, created with fresh fruits, purees, and the most premium spirits at the bar. The star of the mocktails menu, however, is Mint Leaf’s signature drink, Sparkling Julep – Peach Puree, Lemon Juice, Apple Juice, Mint, this icy drink served in a huge copper mug refreshes your soul at the first sight.
For appetizers,we got the controversial Adarki Lamp Chops – perfectly flavored with ginger & coriander these lamp chops were tender, soft & so tempting, that I ended up finishing platter myself. Now comes the confusion, the lamp chops lay upon tiny discs of ‘something’ which I thought being chapli kebabs ended up being pressed mint leaf baby potatoes.
Another favorite of mine would be the Lahori Murgh Tikka which was exactly what I was looking for – pure authentic spicy mash up of Chicken Tikka.
Next was their modernized take on the classic Indian street food Aloo Chaat, served in a stylish wine glass filled with tiny discs of crispy baby Potatoes, Sweet yogurt & tangy Tamarind Chutney seasoned with Pomegranate seeds & Bhujia.
We also tried their gorgeous Golden Lady with a twitch of Elderflower cordial, Lemon Juice, Gold Dust, Scavi and Ray Non- Alcoholic Sparkling Grape Juice
We further enjoyed Pindi Cholley – Chickpea Stew with Roasted Cumin & Tamarind, Dal Makhni – Buttery Black Lentil & Murgh Tikka Lazeez – Classic Chicken Tikka Curry, Roasted Sweet Pepper Cream. To try something out of the box we also got their
To try something out of the box we also got their Chilli Garlic Naan which were kinda a disappointment. Despite the red color, it didn’t taste anything near to Garlic or Chili.
The Murgh Tikka Lazeez is a definite must try, I would go further and call it a Spicy /Sweet alternative to my personal fav creamy butter chicken. The perfectly roasted spiced up Pepper Creamy Sauce was on point.
To finish off your culinary delicacy, the very much fashioned yet still somewhat true to its roots Gulab Jamun Cheese Cake was the last delight for the evening. A perfect example of India meets London cooking style, served with Mango puree, strawberry and Gulan Jamun slices, this heavenly dessert had a layer of crushed biscuits, sweet goodness of cream cheese & bits of Gulab Jamun.
If you are looking for a luxurious dining to impress, then Mint Leaf’s Heart warming Atmosphere, Eye pleasing Mock-tails & Supremely fashioned Entree is the answer. Forget about your money & enjoy the deluxe experience at this innovative Indian restaurant combining the best of both the classic and progressive styles.
Also, they have Ladies Night on every Monday from 7 pm on wards.Receive 3 drink vouchers and you can choose from 2 options of cocktails, White wine, Red Wine OR Sparkling wine. Ladies receive 30% discount on Lounge Food menu as well at Lounge and Bar Area.

The smell of shrimps, sizzling hot noodles and steamy soup is all you need to make you go from ‘FINE’ to ‘AWESOME SAUCE’. Growing up I was fortunate to be a part of UAE, a culturally diversified country where incorporating different cuisines to your daily meals is somewhat a tradition. Every nook & cranny has a Chinese, Arabic, Indian & Italian restaurants – meaning every weekend we got to try something new.
Last week, I got invite to Nom Nom Asia, a Cafe style Asian restaurant inspired by South-East Asian street food culture, serving both Chinese & Thai. The graffiti walls & quirky hashtag chopstick logos does catch your eye in an instance.
Nom Nom Asia is tucked away in Barsha 1, quite an isolated location but the trusted old GPS gets you there with no problems. Atmosphere wise, it is not overly flashy and has a very calm, subtle ambiance with the tables packed near to each other in a line very cleverly – exactly what you want from a Chinese restaurant. The only thing I didn’t like was PAID PARKING.
We were greeted by the founder/owner himself Vivek, who very beautifully explained how they select fresh seafood & meat on a weekly basis and vegetables are handpicked thrice a week themselves. The guy is very tech-friendly and I think that’s why Nom Nom Asia is so hyped on social media. We went on a Monday evening for a dinner, though the restaurant wasn’t crowded, delivery orders were back & forth the whole night. The Menu is compact yet a bit complicated offering over 108 dishes in veg, chicken, fish, prawn, tofu & beef.
As for the customer service, our servers got the food onto the table so quickly ‘Kudos’ !!
We started off with their complimentary Prawn Chips accompanied with the authentic Chinese Trio – Soy sauce, Vinegar & Chilli Sauce. Along those we sipped their Signature drink – Thai Ice Tea served in cute mason jars, perfect for hot summers days in UAE.
Next, I ordered my go-to comfort food ‘Sweet Corn soup‘ – you can never go wrong with it.
For starters, we got their Pepper Chilli Tossed Chicken – a signature dish of Nom Nom Asia recommended by the Chef himself, and what a delight it was to eat! Crispy Dynamite Prawns – we got this thinking of Dynamite Shrimps of PF changs, at the first look I was utterly disappointed as you get jumbo prawns & their in-house sauce separately. But I have to give them, their Dynamite Sauce is a Million bucks if you are a fan of spicy get their custom made Dynamite Sauce, however, the prawns were quite flavourless.
As you continue eating, you quickly grasp that it’s an Indo-Chinese restaurant, not the traditional authentic Chinese! But they do serve ‘Have Sum Dim Sum Platter’ – an authentic Chinese dish consisting Steamed Chicken Dumplings, Spring Rolls, Siu Mai & Wontons.
For Mains, we got Nom Nom Chicken Fried Rice (Quite Normal), Hakka Noddles (Must Try) & Smokey Sizzling Hot Plate – Chicken with a blend of veggies marinated in ginger juice & garlic butter, bean sprouts & spring rolls. Nah !! The Hot Plate was my least favourite, basically because the Chicken was too hard to chew & the flavors were too mild. Also, we were served their Kung Pao Chicken & Dragon Chicken Sauce, to me both tasted quite same but were deliciously mouth watering.
Lastly, we had our hands on their Best Seller Dessert – Fried Ice Cream – sweet breaded scoop of vanilla in a warm crispy shell sprinkled with crushed almonds & chocolate sauce. It tasted as fabulous as it sounds & looks! Maybe the most heavenly & addictive desserts ever made!
The best feature about them would surely be their affordable prices. You could eat your heart out under 100 AED easily with such great portions. This restaurant is perfect for takeouts – if you are interested in trying Indo-Chinese & Authentic Thai food enjoyit at the comfort of your home.
I might visit back to steal a bite of their divine Fried Ice Cream. Well as for the food, my friends & I already got their Thai food home delivered few days ago and it was too darn good & very authentic. (I would prefer to get takeaways from NOM NOM) !! Nom Nom Asia also does catering and delivery.

Lately, whenever & wherever GUILT FREE food is involved, butterflies start gushing up in my stomach. Being a working woman who has two equally important job, eating healthy can be cumbersome. But I’m determined to stay on track with my diet & health food restaurant like Skye & Walker at Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai Creek makes it somewhat manageable.
Located in the core of Old Dubai and being a walkable distance from Deira Metro Station, makes it a decent choice for a hangout spot for teenagers. You get to select between outdoors (the view isn’t anything near fun & exciting) or indoors. It’s their appealing interiors which give you a warm sense of belongingness. The furniture, flooring & decor are made from natural, recycled & reclaimed materials – Go Green!! ! Bring on your laptop on board for work or chill out while watching something interesting on TV.
Around of applause for their short & sweet menu, nothing complicated whatsoever. Our server was super nice (she kept taking away my menu for some reason) but you might get a tad bit fuzzy, over how much time they take to get the food on your table provided very few customers were dining at that point.
Our expedition began with some fancy tropical pink Pomegranate lemonade and Strawberry infused Coconut Water. Their complimentary crispy oven baked Kale Chips served with lemon slices, sea salt, ground chili & black pepper are my current go to munching treat.
As I skipped through the menu, I found my childhood love –Buttermilk Pancakes paired with whip cream butter, maple syrup and fresh blueberries. For starters, my friend got Kale Ceasar salad, a mixture of gluten free croutons, pomegranate seeds, shaved parmesan & grilled chicken. She wanted me to specifically mention the salad was absolutely divine and kale couldn’t taste any better than this.
We kicked off our main course with their JUICY Organic Beef Burger along with baked sweet potato fries ordered by my friend.
As for me, I got some slightly flavored Salmon fillet alongside Asparagus & Saffron Rice topped with Mushroom Gravy – a combo recommended by the chef himself. I found the Salmon to have no real taste, but the delicate mushroom gravy complimented the “FLAVOURLESS” Salmon perfectly making it somewhat bearable.
Before I forget, the highlight of my evening was their customizable pizza – plenty of topping to select from. The thin crust gluten-free chicken Pizza was my absolute favorite. I liked it so much that I was craving it the next day.
As for desserts, none of them exceeded my expectations but were average! The Flourless Chocolate Cake served with Vanilla & Strawberry Gelato & Chocolate Sauce was too cold. Rather I would have loved to be served a warm cake complimenting the icy cold gelatos.
The Raw Carrot Cake is served chilled in a mason jar, demolishing all the yummy goodness I needed to end my amazing lunch. Lastly, the Matcha Chia Pudding topped with bits of kiwi is made for all those who want a slight sweetish touch with a healthy edge.
For a guilt free nutritious meal, the prices are quite good. But some might stay away from the desserts which are exceptionally cold for my liking, on the contrary, their buttermilk pancakes are must try and so worth it. Also, the restaurant offers an affordable deal worth AED 65 for a soup/counter salad, counter hot food (pizza/casserole) & dessert.
If you are in a mood for healthy eating, this is the place to go. I won’t mind going back for the drinks, pizza or pancake with my girlfriends for a cozy chilled out evening. But this ain’t a place for satisfying your heavy lunch/dinner cravings unless you are ready to pay a huge amount.

Anyone who knows me will know how obsessed am I with pizza – crunchy crusts, oozing cheese & fiery meat, I just can’t get enough of it. So when Pizza Express told me their Al Safa branch had a grand makeover with a brand new menu complimenting their usual selections which they wanted me to test them out, and you guessed it right, I jumped at the chance.
This is very much a landmark location; situated on a peaceful corner of Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah. It’s the perfect spot to visit just after a sunset stroll from the Al Safa Park and BANG you can find the revamped look of your childhood favorite “Pizza Express”. To give a restaurant a 10/10 for their location, I expected a good parking space, heart soothing view & warm welcoming ambiance at which this Eating House stood out like a champ. They offer both indoor & walled outdoor sitting area from where you can have the gorgeous view of Burj Khalifa. However, if you are looking for a more private seating arrangement, that’s not on the cards.
At the first glance of the menu have you been so confused and skeptic about what to order, that it is nearly an impossible task? Yes, I’m one of those hopeless confused souls who wander around the vast selection for hours. I asked our server for some help and she was happy to help me out, instead of dumping the most expensive deals on the menu, she right away focused on my preferences and with some deeply calculated thought process, she referred to me items which I ended up loving. So Kudos to their staff members, who gave my taste buds the utmost priority.
We started off our Cheat Day with their Tropical Mocktail, a blend of Fresh watermelon & pineapple juice topped with lemon which was the perfectly proportioned citrusy drink and got some green silicon olives as Intros from their New menu.
For starters, we got their ‘Speciale’ Dough balls rolled & baked with Parmesan and served with garlic butter which, to my liking was quite average and lacking that extra oomph. On the other hand, my friend found it surprisingly pleasant & flavorful with garlic butter.
If you are an anti-tomatoes individual, their Penne Pollo Pesto – a combination of chicken, mushroom, red onions, mozzarella & parmesan baked in Bechamel & Pesto sauce, is sure to take you on a very refreshing ride. If baked kinds of pasta are your thing, do give this a try but please remember it will not satisfy your spicy food cravings.
And boy oh boy what a selection they have here at Pizza Express! I love my thick base, cheese filled crust pizza no matter what, and to some people’s shock, it was my very first time trying a thin base pizza. We got the punchy Pollo Forza pizza with fiery roquito peppers, smoked paprika chicken grated with chilli oil, parmesan & parsley. Let’s talk about the pizza size first, it was HUGE, they literally go all out when we order the LARGE ones and their bases were a really good quality and didn’t feel quite as grease overall
Given that pizza is one of my all time favourite feasts, favoritism is bound to happen. The pizza was filled with well-balanced & complimenting flavours which in my books is a winner.
We could not leave without trying the new range of mouth watering desserts, got their Chocolate fondant & left with a big satisfied smile on my face. A warm chocolate fondant with melted chocolate orange center served with a scoop of homemade gelato. The gelato was decent but it was the oozing melted orange chocolate which took me over with a surprise.
In terms of cost, Pizza Express stands right in the middle junction. Though, I loved the pasta in terms of the portion offered, it was way too expensive. But the Pizza oh, it was so worth the price – very filling, flavourful & good quantity. “THUMBS UP”. They also have a Friday brunch and 2 For 1 Monday offer in our Jazz restaurant in Cluster A, JLT.
Oh hell yes!! A perfect place to dine with my family or a chilled out hanging spot for friends, but this isn’t a couples place even though the view is divine. But they got the ‘lovey doves’ all covered up with their New Jazz@PizzaExpress restaurants. The menu has an array of new and interesting flavours, as well as exciting new dessert options which deserve at least one try.
